Owner Alya Davidman founded the company to serve the needs of the East Bay community, to provide both outstanding personalized service and a more conscientious approach to design and care.
Expert care emanates from a rich knowledge of plants, especially native plants that thrive in the Bay Area. This is informed by years of caring for hundreds of established gardens and seeing what works and what doesn’t. Equally important in successful garden design is careful tending over time, and Alya makes ongoing garden maintenance a primary garden service.
Berkeley Gardens is fully licensed and insured. Alya has a Sustainable Landscape Professional certification from Sonoma State University extension, is Bay-Friendly qualified with ReScape California, and is committed to the best practices for low environmental impact.

For a little over a year, my great good fortune has been to have Alya Davidman’s thoughtful, creative work, gardening advice, and presence in my garden. She really knows plants– from varieties, to preferred locations, to soil, water and nutritional needs, to possible pests and diseases. Her attention to the color palate in each area is impressive. In addition, Alya manages the garden as a whole: water consumption was halved this year.
My garden is quite important to me, and is an intimate extension of my home. I feel comfortable having Alya and her crew in such a place. They work hard and effectively, even in the rain.
